MARSHALL – Ernest C. Swails, 80, Rt. 1, Marshall, died Friday morning in the Vermillion County Hospital where he had been a patient eight days. He was born Oct. 15, 1885, in Boone County, the son of William Elmore and Ellen Leap Swails. He was educated in Boone County, but spent most of his life in Indianapolis. He married Mary Victoria Allen in 1904, in Centerton, Ind. Survivors include, one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wall of Marshall; four sons, Forrest of Anderson, and Earl, William and Ernest, all of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Grisel of Lebanon and Mrs. Ruth Scott of Chicago, 20 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Grace and Frances; and one brother, Russell. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will be in the Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. Friends may call at the Funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday. – jlr

WAYNETOWN – Funeral services for Ernest C. Swails were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Servies Funeral Home here with Rev. John Servies officiating. Organ selections played by Mrs. Nellie Snyder included “Steal Away,” “In the Garden,” and “Beautiful Isle.” Pallbearers, who also assisted with the floral tributes, were Rice Banta, Ronnie Banta, Danny Moore, Roy Hutson Jr., Ben Thomas, and Jack Wall. Burial was in Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace. – jlr
